Fire!!!!!
Well...
Hi there! I have a big story to tell you.
I am now rehearsing the Little Mermaid for the December show. Today is our school and Girl Guides show and tomorrow are our public shows.
Yesterday, when I finished rehearsing my scene at Centrepointe Theater, I went into the Auditorium to watch while I waited for Daddy who is working on the set behind the scenes.
There is a scene in the swamp when Ariel gets her legs. They use a smoke machine to look like mist and they had FORGOTTEN TO TELL THE FIREFIGHTERS that we where using smoke so if the smoke alarm happened don't come.
Well, red lights started flashing and the noise of Whee Hoo Whee Hoo blasted. Miss Eva came running and grabbed my hand and another girl's hand that was beside me and we ran outside through back doors and emergency exits.
Some girls were in ballet shoes and point shoes and lots were in their costumes. Costumes and ballet shoes are NOT supposed to go outside - for one costumes are not warm and for two you can wreck you shoes with the salt and snow. PEOPLE JAM!!
Everybody was milling around - some people were laughing and some were crying. It was scarey. The fire alarm was still screeching. Our Choreographer came running out saying get back from the building so some of us ended up in the snow. There was seaweed outside, and an eel outside, and fisherwomen outside, and servants outside, some were only in their body suits and tights, and people walking around in pointe shoes! It was -12 C.
After a few minutes we went back inside, but then our Choreographer shouted from the stage"Everybody out of the building again!!!" We all grabbed our stuff again. We went past the dressing rooms, up really steep stairs. Ursula has a really long train on her costume so she had to gather all her skirts up past her knees to run up the stairs! The eel was still in her pointe shoes so that was interesting trying to run up the stairs in them!
Finally we got cleared to go back in the building again. Our choreographer started up the music and then we heard this funny fireworks sound or a cannon. Daddy even peeked around the backstage to see if our choreographer had changed something and was showing fireworks on the screen. But no, it was the sound system! We looked up and the sound system was bouncing!
Miss Eva told us to go to our dressing rooms because she thought the sound system might start to spark and cause a real fire!
My friend and I went to our dressing room which was totally dark because no one was in it. We dropped out stuff not knowing quite what to do. Finally, we got the message that rehearsal was called off and we could go home!
The sound system person though, had to stay and try and fix whatever was wrong! I hope he has as we have our two shows today!!!!
